It is useful to think of research as an investigative process. It is important to be clear exactly what it is you have been asked to research. The types of research you might engage in can vary considerably, depending on how the scope of the research is defined. When researching, identify what it is you need to investigate. To effectively define your area of research:-
- Be targeted in the scope of your research – the more specific you are in your searches, the more useful the information will be
- Select the appropriate sources
- Critically analyse these sources
- Establish definitions of all key terms in relation to your area of research
- Develop strategies for finding the information that you need
