The BBC iPlayer is the online player for BBC TV content. It has a useful subtitle feature on much of its content. If you find listening to a Scottish accent challenging, why not try watching and listening to programmes on BBC Scotland? Watch and listen with subtitles off, then try again with subtitles on to check comprehension.
The above example is for BBC iPlayer, but the process is the same for ITV Player, 4oD and Demand 5. Be aware that you will need a TV license to watch television in the UK. You must have a TV Licence if you:
- watch or record BBC programmes on a TV, computer or other device as they’re broadcast
- download or watch BBC programmes on iPlayer – live, catch up or on demand
A TV Licence costs for both homes and businesses. You do not require a British TV license to watch any other non-BBC online content.
