Source-based research engages with pre-existing sources, whether texts, images, video, archive material and so on. By building on and critiquing this pre-existing knowledge, you are creating new knowledge.
See our pages here for guidance on research with sources. We also recommend that you look at GSA Library’s award-winning InfosmART resource, which has guidance on working with information sources specifically for students in the creative disciplines.
When writing up your research, you will need to incorporate your sources into your own writing in an appropriate way. See Integrating Sources in Writing on documenting your sources and bringing the words and ideas of others into your own work.
